Ancestral Pueblo: Southern Colorado Plateau (Anasazi) | Central Anasazi | Southern Cibola | Acoma Historic Matte Paint Ware |
First posted by Dean Wilson
While polychrome forms decorated in red and black matte paint produced in both the Acoma and Zuni areas exhibit similar white pastes, sherd temper, and stylistic changes, Harlow (1967; 1973) distinguished historic polychrome types indicative of production at Acoma based on overall vessel form and decorative styles. Pottery assigned Polychrome is also included here. Pottery types assigned to this ware group, in order of the time during which they first began to be produced, include Ako Polychrome, Acomita Polychrome, McCarty Polychrome, and Laguna Polychrome.
