Pottery with combinations of Jornada Brown pastes and red slips or painted decorations was assigned to types of the Three Rivers Red Ware tradition (Wimberly and Rogers 1977). Most of the descriptions of this pottery have focus on types such as Three Rivers Red-on-terracotta and Lincoln Black-on-red which do not appear to have been produced until after the beginning of the twelfth century 2001; Wiseman 2002). While evidence for the development of Three Rivers Red Ware out of earlier Mogollon types such as San Francisco Red and Mogollon Red-on-brown have long been long noted (Mera 1943), the rarity of detailed descriptions and discussion of pottery from early sites in the Jornada Mogollon have limited the definition and documentation of the early span of the sequence that led the later Three Rivers Red Ware types. An attempt is made here to describe types that include the full span of production of Three Rivers Red Ware types.
