Ware Name: Gallina White Ware

The conservative nature of ceramic technology in the Gallina Region is reflected by the long-term production of similar and simple white ware forms for which the entire sequence can be assigned to a single type "Gallina Black-on-white. Unlike most regions of the Southwest, potters in this region were not influenced by Red Mesa Black-on-white which by the tenth century appears to have been distributed across the Southwest, influencing later white wares associated with various traditions. Instead pottery that continued to be produced in the Gallina region until the end of the thirteenth century reflects the continuation a simple organic painted forms that began with the production of Rosa Black-on-white.
