Ware Name: Polacca Yellow Ware

Polacco Yellow Ware is a historic Hopi pottery ware that grew out of the preceding Jeddito Yellow Ware group. Examples assigned to this type exhibit red, orange, white or buff surfaces. Pottery associated was fired in oxidizing atmosphere by reflects the use of dung rather than coal as fuel. A defining characteristic of Polacca Yellow Ware is the absence of overtly religious Native motifs, the introduction of Spanish motifs, and an increase in covertly Native religious imagery, the most common of which were feathers. Types belonging to this ware include San Bernardo and Payupki Polychrome.
