Chuska Red Ware types reflect very rare examples of pottery exhibiting styles and technologies similar to those noted for early San Juan Red Ware types but are tempered with trachyte temper indicative of production in the Chuska Valley (Windes 1977). The rarity and lack of variation of such pottery, has resulted in the identification so far of only a single type, for early style red ware pottery indicates that incidences of production of early painted red wares in the Chuska Valley and other regions in the Central Anasazi appear to have been extremely rare.
