Apachean (Southern Athapaskan) | Southwest Apachean | Southern Apache | Peloncillo Brown Ware |
First posted by C. Dean Wilson 2014
Peloncillo Brown Ware refers to pottery associated in areas occupied by Southern Apache groups, which exhibit characteristics noted for Apache pottery but with brown to reddish colors. This reflects the use of high iron clays similar to those used earlier in the production of Mogollon or Jornada Mogollon brown ware vessels. Only a single type is presently described for this ware although more types could be potentially split out of the one general group to document the variability that may be represented by Apache pottery exhibiting characteristics used to define this ware.
