Ancestral Pueblo: Greater Upper Rio Grande Valley | Northern Rio Grande | Taos (Northern Tiwa) | Taos White Ware |
First posted by C. Dean Wilson 2014
The earliest white wares produced in the Taos Valley are very similar to those described for areas of the Rio Grande to the south, although decorations in mineral lasted long than in regions directly to the south. The poorly known later types tend to be distinctive and rare, often representing cruder versions of Tewa or Northern Rio Grande white ware types. The area of production of the later white wares was limited to often a single village such as Taos or Picuris Pueblo.
